This hosted service represents a new generation metasearch service. It displays results quickly and simply, and gives the searcher unparalleled control over the search experience. These benefits are accomplished through features such as
  • simultaneous searching of up to 100 databases almost instantly
  • relevance ranking, sorting and merging of records across databases
  • processing of returned hits at the rate of 2000 records per second
  • faceted searching by resource, subject, author, date or any library-defined element

Best of all, MasterKey is being made freely available to the library community for searching high value open content. Just go to the MasterKey service and begin searching. We encourage you to let us know what you think of this free service, and to give us suggestions for additional open content you would like to see searchable via MasterKey.

MasterKey is available in two ways: as a hosted solution and as a locally installed solution. Subscription prices for the hosted service can start as low as $6,000 for the initial set-up followed by a $3,000 per year annual subscription fee. Thousands of targets are available. MasterKey can also be hosted at the library. low-level middleware engine webservice, pazpar2, is now freely downloadable under the standard open source General Public License. It comes bundled with a simple interface and a few open content resources. Libraries that would like assistance installing the web service engine behind MasterKey and using it as the basis of a locally hosted metasearch service are invited to contact LibLime.

The MasterKey hosted service is free for searching a limited set of open content resources. We currently provide access to the following resources:

  • 160,000 ebooks from the Open Content Alliance and Project Gutenberg
  • 1,800,000 Wikipedia articles
  • 4,700,000 Internet resources cataloged by the Open Directory Project
  • 10,000,000 digital repository records from the OAIster union catalog
